Tobii is a Swedish company, one of the world’s leaders in eye-tracking systems development. They produced a relatively inexpensive device, which allows to control applications and games with user’s sight. Tobii EyeX is based on a controller with integrated infrared micro projectors and a camera, which tracks user’s eyes position. The software complex allows the program to track user’s sight direction and identify a control element, which is selected by the user.
This device works under Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 operational systems and requires one USB 3.0 port. Recommended technical specifications: Intel i5 or i7 processor with a frequency of 2.4 GHz or higher, 8 Gb of RAM. This controller works with displays of 27” or lower. The device can be fixed on a lower part of your display and requires 1.27cm (0.5 inches) of free vertical space.
Tobii EyeX is positioned as a gaming controller, which allows to reduce response time, by using more fast and accurate positioning with user’s sight. Tobii signed an agreement with SteelSeries in order to create and develop SteelSeries Sentry gaming controller.
Tobii EyeX was created to make work with personal computers faster and easier for those people, who don't suffer from any lack of motor activity. Coupled with specific software solutions (various virtual keyboards and some other apps), this eye-tracking system can be easily transformed into an assistive technology for fully paralyzed patients.
